Eight village heads in Demak Regency, Central Java, were tried for a case of alleged bribery of Rp840 million against lecturer at the State Islamic University (UIN) Walisongo Semarang in the process of selecting village officials in the area. Public Prosecutor Sri Heryono said there were 16 prospective village officials who were entrusted to pass the selection in collaboration with UIN Semarang. The eight defendants who were tried were each Head of Gedangalas Turmuji, Head of Jatisono Purnomo Village, Head of Tanjunganyar Alaudin Village, Head of Sambung Siswahyudi Village, Head of Tambirejo Agus Suryanto, Head of Manginarjo M.Juanedi Village, Head of Banjarsari Hariadi Village, and Head of Medini M.Rois Village The two lecturers at UIN Semarang who were suspected of accepting bribes were Amin Farih, who is Deputy Dean of FISIP UIN Semarang and Adib, who served as Chair of the Semarang FISIP UIN Political Science Study Program. The corruption crime that occurred in 2021 began when FISIP UIN Semarang became the executor of the test in the selection of village officials in Gajah District, Demak Regency. The eight defendants allegedly promised 16 registrants to fill the positions of apparatus and village secretary by giving some money. The defendants set a price of Rp150 million for the position of village officials and Rp250 million for the position of village secretary. From the collected money, IDR 830 million of which was handed over to Amin Farih and Adib in two stages. "The first handover of Rp720 million was made at the house of the defendant Adib," he said during a trial chaired by Chief Judge Arkanu at the Semarang Corruption Court, Antara, Thursday, December 8. Meanwhile, the remaining Rp110 million was handed over during a meeting at the Semarang Sea Village Restaurant. For the giving of the money, the defendants obtained a lattice about the exam that must be studied by the 16 test participants. For their actions, the defendants were charged with Article 5 paragraph 1 letter a, or Article 5 paragraph i letter b, or Article 13 of Law Number 31 of 1999 which was amended and added to Law Number 20 of 2001 concerning Eradication of Criminal Acts of Corruption.
