Dozens of villages in five sub-districts on Simeulue Island, Simeulue Aceh Regency, were hit by floods. Head of the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) Simeulue Regency, Zulfadli, said that apart from flooding, heavy rains also caused landslides. "From the reports we received, dozens of villages in five sub-districts in Simeulue were hit by floods. There has been no evacuation due to the disaster. The water level is under the calf of an adult," said Zulfadli in Simeulue, Antara, Wednesday, December 7. Zulfadli said the five sub-districts were hit by the flood, namely South Teupah District, Teluk Dalam District, Alafan District, Salang District, and West Teupah District. "The BPBD team has been deployed to the flood site to help residents affected by the disaster. Until now, flood-affected residents are still staying in their homes," said Zulfadli. In addition to flooding, said Zulfadli, heavy rains also caused landslides that damaged residents' houses, although not too severe. "There have been no reports of casualties in the flood and landslide disaster. Likewise, material losses are still being calculated," said Zulfadli. Previously, said Zulfadli, BPBD appealed to people in Simeulue Regency to be aware of extreme weather that has the potential to cause natural disasters. "Based on BMKG's early warning, there is the potential for moderate to heavy rain accompanied by lightning and strong winds in several areas in Simeulue Regency for the next few days," said Zulfadli. Zulfadli said the heavy rain accompanied by strong winds has the potential to cause natural disasters such as floods, landslides, and fallen trees. "People living in disaster-prone areas and coastal and mountainous areas are advised to increase vigilance and preparedness," said Zulfadli. Zulfadli also asked the public to immediately report to the village apparatus, sub-district officials, and the nearest police in the event of a disaster to be followed up immediately. To fishermen, they are temporarily asked not to go to sea because the weather in the waters of the Indian Ocean is currently uncertain and high in waves. Even if you keep going to sea, said Zulfadli, try to be on the outskirts and close to a shelter because it is easy to reach if at any time there is strong winds and high waves.
