Transportation observer Azas Tigor Nainggolan asked the Transportation Service (Dishub) to work effectively in guarding bicycle lanes so that cyclists can take advantage of this special lane without any disturbance from other motorized vehicles.

The reason is that currently, bicycle lanes are often used as road access by two-wheeled, three-wheeled, and four-wheeled vehicles. A number of angkots are used by bicycle lanes when passing. In addition, bicycle lanes also do not escape to become vehicle parking lots.

"That's the bicycle lane as long as it was made at the same time as the Transportation Agency in the era of Governor Anies. As long as it's made, just chase the long target," said Azas when confirmed by VOI, Monday, December 5.

The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government through the DKI Jakarta Transportation Agency must also provide education to the public regarding the benefits of bicycle lanes in Jakarta.

"You have to build public education so you know what the bicycle lane is for, how to use the bicycle lane. Because now the bicycle lane is a parking lot, motorbikes pass, it's better if the bicycle lane is evaluated first," he said.

Tigor said, education about the concept of how to build the right bicycle lane so that its use is right on target.

"It must be evaluated about the bicycle lane. Until later (the concept) how to build a good bicycle lane that can be used and is not used carelessly by people (bicycle lanes)," he said.

Azas also asked the DKI Jakarta Transportation Agency to sterilize vehicles on bicycle lanes so that there is no bicycle lane that becomes a vehicle parking program.

"Obviously, the fault. Because the problem is that the Transportation Agency is not working, he should guard it as a bicycle lane. The Transportation Agency must not keep the bicycle lanes as a parking lot and a place to monitor vehicles," he said.

Previously, it was reported that the lack of supervision of bicycle lanes at a number of road points in the Central Jakarta area was used by irresponsible people as parking lots for two- and four-wheeled vehicles.

Like Jalan Pejambon and Jalan Salemba, the bicycle lane area has turned into a parking lot for four-wheeled vehicles. There are no officers guarding or reprimanding vehicles parked on bicycle lanes.

"Yes, it is true that in a number of bicycle lanes, Central Jakarta, there are vehicles parked," said Head of the Central Jakarta Transportation Sub-dept., Wildan Anwar when contacted, Friday, December 2.

Wildan admitted that bicycle lanes in Central Jakarta often turn into motorcycle parking areas to cars. The entry of these vehicles is due to the limited number of officers guarding the bicycle lane area.
