Karawang Police Arrested Couriers Who Stole Rp68.5 Million In Cash At Their Workplace

The police arrested a courier from a freight forwarding service company in the Karawang Regency, West Java, for stealing money belonging to the company where he worked.

"We arrested the perpetrator of the theft of money with the initials S (41). The perpetrator was desperate to steal money belonging to the company where he worked, because he was suspected of being in debt," said Kotabaru Police Chief Iptu Muhammad Rizqi Anshori Nursyamsu, in Karawang, Saturday, quoting Antara.

He conveyed that the perpetrator was arrested by the police from the Kotabaru Police, Karawang, after stealing money belonging to PT Andiarta Muzizat (Ninja Xpress) amounting to Rp68,500,000.

To launch the action, the perpetrator also committed violence against his co-worker Riyan Mardiansyah.

Before stealing money belonging to the company where he worked located in Wakan Tambun Hamlet, Pucung Village, Kota Baru District, Karawang, Wednesday (30/11), the perpetrator turned off the kWh meter or electricity in the Ninja Xpress.

After the lights went out, the perpetrator then hit his colleague using pieces of bamboo on the victim's head and hands.

Then the perpetrator took the money stored under his colleague's desk.

The police chief said that after Riyan experienced violence by the perpetrators, he went straight out of the warehouse to ask for help, while the perpetrator took the money.

Shortly after, the perpetrator was arrested and secured by residents while carrying the stolen money.

From the perpetrator's confession, he was desperate to steal money by first committing violence against his own co-workers, because he needed money to pay off debts and fulfill his daily needs.

"The perpetrator admitted to stealing money to pay bank installments and increasing the needs of his family's life," he said.

The perpetrator worked as a courier for three years, and during his time at the company, he had never had any problems.

Furthermore, to account for his actions, the perpetrator was charged with Article 365 of the Criminal Code, with a maximum penalty of nine years in prison.
