The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Has Been Asked To Apply The Investigation Opportunities Article If Lawyer Lukas Enembe Meets The Witness To Intimidate

JAKARTA - The Indonesian Anti-Corruption Society (MAKI) has asked the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) not to hesitate to apply the obstruction article of investigation against anyone who interferes with the investigation into alleged corruption by Papua Governor Lukas Enembe.

This request was submitted in response to an alleged meeting between Lukas Enembe's attorney, Stefanus Roy Rening, and the witness examined by the KPK. MAKI Coordinator Boyamin Saiman said whoever hinders law enforcement must be processed.

"If there is an effort to challenge the investigation, it should be processed," Boyamin told VOI, Friday, December 2.

The KPK must find out the purpose of Roy's meeting with the witnesses, including exploring whether or not there was intimidation. Moreover, there is a tendency when a lawyer for the suspect meets witnesses usually ends with an effort to influence information.

"So it can be said that it leads to obstructing investigations," said Boyamin.

However, he did not want to speculate further regarding the meeting. Boyamin only asked the KPK to investigate further.

"We are waiting for the next process. In the BAP, Roy Rening's request for information has been explained properly," he said.

Previously, the KPK had examined Roy Rening on Monday, November 28. During the examination, investigators studied the meeting he allegedly conducted with witnesses in the Lukas case.

KPK Deputy for Enforcement and Execution Karyoto said the KPK did not hesitate to apply the article on the obstruction of investigation in the event of a violation at the meeting. Moreover, investigators are now gathering evidence.

"If we make statements from witnesses examined or other clues have been fulfilled, we will make a construction that may be against violations," said KPK Deputy for Enforcement and Execution Karyoto to reporters at the KPK's Red and White House, Kuningan Persada, South Jakarta, Thursday, December 1.

Karyoto stated that investigators had pocketed a number of information regarding Roy's meeting with the witnesses of the alleged corruption that ensnared Lukas. However, he did not want to explain further.

"Of course we won't talk much first, because we haven't got much information yet, only one or two and two," he said.

"If everything goes normally, of course it still has something to do with the field of the assignment of PH's duties to accompany clients," concluded Karyoto.
