JAKARTA - The Indonesian Navy Hydro-Oceanography Center (Pushidrosal) found six underwater mountains with a height of up to 3,400 meters during the Citra 2 Jala Expedition program.

"We found that there were six large mountains, the height also reached 3,400 meters. We see this as something that needs to be watched out for together," said Danpushidrosal Vice Admiral TNI Nurhidayat at Pushidrosal Command Headquarters, East Ancol, North Jakarta, Thursday 1 November.

The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB), said Nurhidayat, has simulated how mitigation can be carried out if the underwater mountain erupts.

Nurhidayat revealed that there is a possibility of a tsunami if this mountain erupts. Simulations carried out with BNPB function to estimate the height of the tsunami, the direction of the tsunami, and how much tsunami can be caused by the volcanic eruption.

"It is necessary to mitigate disasters so that there is a lesson for local residents," said Nurhidayat.

On the Jala Citra 1 expedition, Pushidrosal also found 10 mountains under the sea, and it turned out that the mountains were small mountains which were the result of a large volcanic eruption.

Nurhidayat emphasized that the Jala Citra expedition will continue to be developed. This expedition will focus on the sea. According to Nurhidayat, the sea harbors many mysteries.

"There are not too many problems with the shallow sea. However, if the deep sea has many mysteries that can be obtained, in addition to survey equipment which is also very limited to being able to be in the deep sea," he said.

In the future, he targets to be able to use KRI Dewa Kembar 932 to become the mainstay of surveys of deep-sea waters in Indonesia. Currently, KRI Dewa Kembar is under repair.

"Hopefully the KRI Dewa Kembar will be ready next year with multibeam so that there are three ships that can be prepared for a joint survey," he said.
