JAKARTA - The Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) has rebuilt two elementary schools (SD) in Cianjur, West Java using Simple Healthy Instant Home (RISHA) technology designed to withstand earthquakes.

Based on information from the RISHA applicator team under the guidance of the Directorate General of Human Settlements, the Ministry of PUPR, a school building using RISHA technology, turned out to be safe when the earthquake had a magnitude of 5.6 on November 21, 2022.

"We have experience building schools with RISHA technology, whose conditions remain safe after the November 21, 2022 earthquake with a scale of 5.6 billion in Cianjur Regency," said PUPR Ministry Spokesperson Endra S Atmawidjaja in a statement in Jakarta, quoted from Antara, Saturday, November 26.

Endra said the location of the school in Cilaku District was Cugenang District which became the epicenter of the earthquake. There are two elementary schools built using RISHA technology, namely SD Kidang Kencana and SD Cibantala 1.

"The condition of the structure and the entire building is safe from damage caused by the earthquake. Other schools that are conventionally built are indicated to be badly cracked," he said.

According to Endra, this school was built in 2020 by the Ministry of PUPR with RISHA technology considering its location in the moderate earthquake zone and above.

Several other schools built by the Ministry of PUPR such as in Banten, Central Sulawesi, West Sulawesi, Nias, and West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) that are prone to disasters have also implemented RISHA technology.

Previously, the Minister of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) Basuki Hadimuljono planned to build a new earthquake-resistant house for victims whose houses suffered heavy damage, collapse, or had to be relocated, due to an earthquake in Cianjur.

The construction of a new house is intended for earthquake victims whose houses were heavily damaged, collapsed, or forced to be relocated.

Meanwhile, earthquake victims whose houses suffered minor and moderate damage will receive compensation of IDR 50 million, which is a stimulant from the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB).
