JAKARTA - The DPR and the government have approved the Draft Law on the Criminal Code (RKUHP) to continue its discussion at the DPR plenary meeting to be ratified into law.

The PKS faction represented by Dimyati Natakusumah said there were several articles in the RKUHP which according to PKS contradicted democratic freedom. One of them is related to the article on insulting the president which is considered to restrict the people from expressing their aspirations and criticism in democracy.
"Agreed by providing several notes, several articles 219, 240, 412. In this case, the PKS Faction consistently rejects the formulation of second-delic insults to the president and state institutions from the argument which are felt to be thick with the spirit of feudalism and colonialism, which actually wants to be reformed from the old Criminal Code," he said.
"One thing is unfortunate if the formulation of the Criminal Code offense becomes a tool that can silence people's aspirations and criticisms of the authorities," continued Dimyati.
Before it was agreed, Commission III of the DPR together with the government through the Ministry of Law and Human Rights discussed 23 points of the draft RKUHP summary given by the DPR faction to the government. Then the government stated to accommodate the input of Commission III of the DPR.
When Deputy Chairman of Commission III of the DPR Adies Kadir as the chair of the meeting held a RKUHP level one decision-making meeting, the members of the meeting agreed that the RKUHP would soon be ratified into law.
"Can the bill on the Criminal Code be continued at the second level of discussion, namely decision making on the Bill on the Criminal Code which will be scheduled at the nearest plenary session of the DPR RI. Can it be approved?" said Adies Kadir.

Furthermore, the factions through their representatives and the government represented by Deputy Minister of Law and Human Rights Edward OS Hiariej signed the approval of the RKUHP.
