A total of 1,800 students in grades 1 and 2 elementary schools (SD) in Kupang City, East Nusa Tenggara Province, have not been able to read because of difficulties in participating in online learning during the COVID-19 pandemic. "There are still 1,800 children in Kupang City who have not been able to read, so these students are a priority to participate in the learning recovery program through the Smart Lopo Program," said Head of the Kupang City Education and Culture Office Dumuliahi Djami in Kupang, Antara, Thursday, November 24. The Kupang City Government facilitates the implementation of additional classes for elementary school students who have not been able to read and write through the Smart Lopo Program. "The students, which reached 1,800 people, will later participate in the Smart Lopo Program which is carried out in each kelurahan," he said. According to him, the Smart Lopo Program includes providing additional lessons to students in grades 1 and 2 who have not been able to read and write after school. In this case, students will receive learning assistance from university students, partners with the city government. Dumuliahi revealed that previously there were around 3,000 grade 1 and 2 elementary school students in Kupang City who had not been able to read and write because of difficulties in participating in online learning during the pandemic, but the number decreased by 1,200 after teachers provided reading and writing guidance to them. "This is thanks to the hard work of the teachers who continue to guide students in the learning process in class so that 1,200 grade 1 and 2 children who have not been able to read at this time already have the ability to read and write well," he said.
