JAKARTA - PT Angkasa Pura II conveyed the issue of "global megatrends" which has a significant impact on the aviation industry helping the company establish a long-term proactive strategy.

PT Angkasa Pura II President Director Muhammad Awaluddin said that the issues included in global megatrends must be understood from global, political, economic, legal and demographic aspects.

"For AP II, the analysis of global megatrends helps determine a long-term strategy that is proactive, not reactive," Awaluddin said as quoted by Antara, Monday, December 14.

This analysis can help the company anticipate market developments and deal with changes in the industry, so that the company can seize opportunities and minimize negative impacts.

There are six global megatrends that have a positive or reverse impact on the aviation industry, namely climate change, a shift in global economic power (global economic power shift), a rapid rate of urbanization (rapid urbanization).

Then, demographic changes (new technologies), and global connectivity (global connectedness).

Awaluddin explained that AP II as the manager of 19 airports including Soekarno-Hatta Airport has formulated a strategic transformation program (Transformation Flagship) which has adopted an analysis of global issues of megatrends and the game changers industry.

"We are committed to always adapting to global megatrends, by making AP II transform through the Transformation Flagship program from 2016 to the present. This is a transformation program that continues and never stops," he said.

Meanwhile, Chairman of the Aviation Strategies International (ASI) Institute based in Canada, Pierre Coutu, said that one of the global megatrend issues facing aviation this year is global connectedness.

Global connectedness is defined as a world that is very closely connected (hyperconnected) through various networks of various types such as data, voice, multimedia and transportation.

"Airline network connectivity fulfills the need for economical and efficient travel. This connectedness also contributes to the spread of COVID-19 in the world," said Pierre Coutu.

The global impact of megatrends on the airline industry is a change in demand, services and regulations. In line with that, the aviation industry responded through human resources, assets, systems / procedures and changes in organizational structure.

"Doing nothing is not an option. Massive transformation is needed so that the organization will be stronger in the future (future-wise organization)," explained Pierre Coutu.
