The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) will not send a reply letter regarding a request for clarification submitted by Papua Governor Lukas Enembe's legal team.
The presence of one of the lawyers, Aloysius Renwarin, to explain the alleged corruption that ensnared his client was deemed more important.
"Of course we will not reply to such a letter. Because what is needed is that he is present and then delivered in front of the investigative team," said Head of the KPK News Section Ali Fikri to reporters at the KPK's Red and White Building, Kuningan Persada, South Jakarta, Monday, November 21.
Ali asked Lukas' attorney not to build an opinion in public. They should be cooperative in fulfilling the next summons.
Moreover, the KPK has the authority to forcibly pick up witnesses who are absent twice for no apparent reason. "We convey to the person concerned and any other witness to be cooperative in attending," he said.
"(Because, red) not only suspects, witnesses can also be forcibly picked up," continued Ali.
The KPK ensured that the statements from the witnesses summoned were urgently needed. Aloysius was asked to respect the summons from the anti-corruption commission by showing his nose in front of the investigation.
"Give a good example to the public to be present as witnesses in front of the investigative team, not to build outside opinions. Because that is an example," he said.
"We also have a basis when a witness or suspect is properly summoned," Ali added.
The KPK summoned Aloysius as a witness regarding the alleged corruption that ensnared Lukas Enembe on Thursday, November 17. It's just that he was absent and would be recalled but did not know the exact schedule.
Meanwhile, Lukas Enembe's attorney, Roy Rening, said he and Aloysius were indeed summoned by investigators on that day. However, both of them chose to send a clarification letter and the anti-corruption commission had received it.
In addition to asking for clarification, these two attorneys also complained to the Indonesian Advocates Association (Peradi). They asked for protection and instructions for the summons of the anti-corruption commission.
This request arose because they felt that as attorneys they had an obligation to keep their clients secret. Not only that, both of them feel they have contributed because they facilitated the KPK's visit to Jayapura to check on Lukas.
Roy said the two would not attend the KPK summons without a recommendation from Peradi. Moreover, they always work according to the code of ethics.
