School Learning In A Number Of Areas Of South Sulawesi Continues To Run Even Though It Is Marked By Floods

JAKARTA - The South Sulawesi Education Office (Disdik) said the learning process in 24 districts and cities continued to run normally even though a number of areas were being hit by floods.

Head of the South Sulawesi Disdik Setiawan Aswad in Makassar, Sunday, said that so far there have been no reports from the regions, including from flood-affected areas such as Makassar, Parepare and Barru Regencies.

"Until today there has been no report. We have also issued a circular to anticipate extreme weather," Setiawan said, quoted by Antara, Sunday.

The contents of the circular include that every school is prohibited from carrying out activities in school buildings that have the potential to be affected by extreme weather, such as the potential for collapse due to strong winds and the potential for damage due to flooding so that it can endanger students, educators and education personnel.

In the circular, every school is required to take anticipatory steps related to disasters that arise as a result of extreme weather, namely floods and landslides in their respective school environments.

Principals are required to take preventive measures by prohibiting students, educators, and education personnel from doing outdoor activities when extreme weather occurs.

The principal, by first coordinating with the Regional Education Office Branch, can cancel schools when extreme weather occurs to prioritize the safety of students, educators and education personnel.

The principal was asked to secure important assets from the impact of extreme weather such as computers, smartphone support electronics and other water-prone support equipment, and was also asked to secure important school documents.

"Including of course eliminating schools if it is not possible to hold a teaching and learning process," he said.
