JAKARTA - Hydrology expert and water resource at Jenderal Sudirman University, Yanto PhD said the statements by leaders or Leaders of the Declaration produced at the G20 Summit emphasized the importance of climate change mitigation.

"The G20 leaders are aware of the importance of the impact of climate change on the world economy," Yanto said as reported by Antara, Sunday, November 20.

The lecturer at the Faculty of Civil Engineering Engineering Department, Unsoed, explained that this commitment was outlined in order to accelerate the reduction in the rate of temperature increase through broad cooperation.

"The commitment contained in the declaration of the leaders also includes the food, energy and biodiversity sector," he said.

This, he said, needs to be appreciated as a form of the commitment of leaders regarding climate change mitigation and efforts to increase climate resilience.

"Mitigation of climate change in wide coverage is very important to support the achievement of the agenda of the Sustainable Development Goals or SDGs 2030," he said.

Meanwhile, Yanto hopes that the implementation of programs related to climate change mitigation in the future will also focus on the availability of water supply and access to clean water.

"Mitigation of climate change in the energy and food sector also needs to be accompanied by mitigation in the water sector in order to create a balance of the system. Therefore, mitigating climate change in the water sector is very important," he said.

He also reminded about the importance of climate change mitigation efforts in the disaster sector or efforts to reduce disaster risk due to climate change.

"For example, the damage to infrastructure due to disaster events will have an impact on disrupting economic activity because disasters have proven to cause major economic losses, thus efforts to reduce disaster risk due to climate change are very important," he said.

Meanwhile, the G20 Summit (KTT) which took place in Bali on November 15-16 2022 ratified the statements of the leaders or Leaders' Declaration.

Several G20 heads of state agreed, among others, the need to enforce international law and multilateral systems, deal with economic crises including through international macro policy cooperation, seek food and energy security, adopt digital technology to encourage innovation and so on.
