In a written statement received, a memorandum of understanding related to countering terrorism was explained on the sidelines of the G20 Summit in Bali on Wednesday, November 16.

"The signing of the MoU with Canada is a milestone that has further strengthened the cooperation in handling terrorists who have been well-developed so far," said Head of BPNT Komjen Pol. Boy Rafli Amar.

According to Boy Rafli Amar, Canada is an important partner for Indonesia in countering terrorism. The signing of the MoU was based on the framework of the Indonesia-Canada Plan of Action 2022-2025 cooperation.

The cooperation includes exchanging information, increasing capacity and good practices that have been carried out by the two countries, as well as gatherings at the level of experts.

In this framework, Indonesia and Canada are committed to strengthening cooperation in countering terrorism, prevention and eradication of cross-border crimes, as well as eradicating human smuggling and trafficking through capacity building.

Bilateral cooperation in the prevention and control of terrorism pays attention to human rights (HAM) and gender-based approaches.

Boy Rafli added that the acts of terrorism that took place in Istanbul, Turkey, on November 13, reiterated that the potential threat of terrorism still exists and is real.

"No country can cope with terrorism alone. For this reason, international cooperation is absolutely necessary and must continue to be improved," Boy explained.

In accordance with the ideals of independence, he continued, Indonesia has a noble goal to create world order that is free from all threats, including terrorism.

The signing of the memorandum of understanding was carried out by Boy Rafli Amar and Canadian Ambassador to Indonesia and Timor Leste Nadia Burger.
