JAKARTA - A number of pedestrian facility canopys in the Supadio Airport area of Pontianak, West Kalimantan, were damaged by a tornado, Friday, November 18 afternoon.

Head of the Sub-Section for Public Information at the Kubu Raya Police, Aipda Ade Surdiansyah, in Sungai Raya, said the incident occurred at 11.00 WIB.

"Due to extreme weather, rain is accompanied by strong winds. The damaged Supadio Airport support facilities are canopy for pedestrians with a damaged canopy length of about 50 meters and a street light pole in the car park area," he said as quoted by Antara.

"The collapse of the canopy and the support pole, as well as the one street lighting pole, did not cause any casualties or damage to the airport facilities' users' vehicles. This incident only caused material losses with an estimated tens of millions of rupiah," he said.

To the public, he appealed to always be vigilant because currently West Kalimantan, especially Kubu Raya, is still predicted to be hit by extreme weather.

"Currently, Supadio International Airport Police personnel together with stakeholders are evacuating the cleaning of canopy debris, so as not to endanger the users of the Supadio International Airport facility," he said.

Ade added, for all people who use airport facilities to be more careful considering the unfriendly weather and also to comply with all applicable regulations in the Supadio International Airport Area.
