JAKARTA - Member of Commission IX DPR Netty Prasetiyani Aher asked the government to side with workers' welfare in determining the increase in the minimum wage for workers (UMP) 2023. According to him, the process of determining the 2023 UMP should not only be based on the PP No. 36/2021 formula without considering the welfare factor of workers.

"The situation is getting more difficult, inflation is increasing, workers can be even more pinched," said Netty, Thursday, November 18.

Netty noted that the increase in fuel prices triggered an increase in the price of materials and goods in almost all sectors. Meanwhile, the UMP in the last three years has increased very significantly compared to the increase in cost of living. He said the 2022 UMP, based on PP No. 36/2021, only increased by 1.09 percent.

"Based on last year's experience, if the 2023 UMP only refers to PP No. 36/2021, then the increase is not far from that figure. This will make it difficult for workers to meet their daily needs," explained Netty.

The West Java electoral district PKS legislator also hopes that the government can facilitate the creation of a dialogue space between employers and workers. According to him, the dialogue room is the key so that each party has an understanding and sees issues holistically, both in terms of employers and from the working side.

Netty assessed that the process of national economic recovery requires contributions and cooperation, even sacrifices from all elements. On the other hand, the industry must continue to move, but workers must also get their rights fairly.

Therefore, added Netty, currently what needs to be considered is the welfare of workers to maintain people's purchasing power.

"If people's purchasing power strengthens, the industrial sector will also benefit. And finally the economy recovers faster and we can rise together stronger," said Netty.

It is known, Minister of Manpower Ida Fauziah announced that the UMP and UMK in 2023 will rise higher than 2022. This increase will be applied to all regions in Indonesia.

Ida explained that the official announcement regarding the increase in the UMP and UMK 2023 for all these regions would be submitted on schedule.

"We will not accelerate the determination or slow down the determination, the determination will run according to the schedule on November 21", said Ida Fauziyah. The basis used to decide the increase in UMK and UMP 2023 is based on the formulation using the formula regulated in PP No. 36 of 2021 concerning changes that refer to Law No. 11 of 2020 concerning job creation. "That the Governor will announce the provincial minimum wage, on November 30 the Governor will set the city district minimum wage," he said.
