BABEL - Belitung Regency was appointed by the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Investment (Kemenko Marves) to host the 2022 World Ocean Assessment (WOA) activity or a world-class maritime meeting.
This was conveyed by the Deputy Regent of Belitung, Isyak Meirobie after chairing a meeting to determine the implementation of WOA 2022 with the head of the local regional apparatus organization (OPD).
"WOA 2022 is a meeting of researchers or marine experts in the world. They will conduct a kind of assessment and find solutions to marine and maritime problems in Indonesia," he said in Tanjung Pandan, Belitung, Bangka Belitung Islands Province, Friday, November 18.
WOA 2022 will take place in Belitung on December 12-15 and will be attended by as many as 22 maritime countries in the world.
"The number of delegates estimated to be present in Belitung reaches 100 people from a number of countries in the world," he said, quoted by Antara.
Isyak added that getting the trust to host such an international meeting is a matter of pride for the region.
Belitung is ready to welcome the delegates with the best service and hospitality and display the local culture and wisdom of the local community.
"Belitung as a WOA 2022 venue must be prepared to show the friendliness, cleanliness, and natural beauty of Belitung as we showed at the G20 Development Ministerial Meeting," he said.
Isyak said that the WOA 2022 delegates would later participate in a series of activities such as a dinner together, planting clothes, releasing hatchlings, watching sunset, "island hopping" and visiting the Belitung Maritime Museum.
The 2022 WOA delegation was also invited to see the condition of the Belitung Maritime Nuseum. They will be invited to see the contents of the Maritime Museum such as the collection of shipload goods (BMKT) in the Belitung waters at an earlier time.
"We will present the strength of our maritime culture there there will be a narrative and explanation," he said.
According to Isyak, the implementation of WOA 2022 momentum Belitung introduces maritime and marine potentials that are owned to the international community.
"Now we can introduce Belitung from a specific side in the marine sector because the Belitung sea is still maintained from other mining and pollution so that they can see that in Indonesia there is a sea that is as clear and natural as this and can combine it with tourism," he said.
