The Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy Sandiaga Unombembe revealed that the main key to tourism and the creative economy (parekraf) in Indonesia can recover after COVID-19.

According to Sandiaga Uno, digitalization is the main key in the recovery of the tourism sector in Indonesia after being hit by the pandemic.

Sandiaga Uno said the pandemic had had a huge impact on various sectors of life in Indonesia and around the world, especially in the tourism sector. Where, the tourism sector experienced a decline of up to 80 percent in 2020 and 75 percent in 2021.

"However, thanks to the hard work of the Indonesian nation and thanks to the leadership of Mr. President Joko Widodo, the tourism sector and the creative economy can gradually recover through digitalization. And with the support of MSMEs, we can present 1.1 million new and quality jobs compared to before the COVID-19 pandemic," Sandiaga said in a press release, Tuesday, November 15.

Sandiaga Uno explained that through digitization in the tourism sector, various types of new jobs also emerged, such as the presence of various content creators who mushroomed during the pandemic.

"I believe through digitalization we can recover stronger, and through adjustments to our global health architecture we can recover better," he said.

The former Deputy Governor of DKI Jakarta is optimistic, within the next three to five years, the tourism sector will be able to bring in an investment figure of around US$6-8 billion. Therefore, Sandiaga Uno invited foreign investors to immediately invest in the country's tourism sector.

"In my opinion, the tourism sector and the creative economy have a great opportunity (investment) and this sector has a big impact on society," said Sandiaga Uno.

In addition, Sandiaga Uno also invited the delegation of participants at the G20 and B20 Summits to extend their stay in Indonesia by visiting one of the five super priority destinations in Indonesia.

"We have prepared five priority destinations, namely Borobudur Temple, Lake Toba, Labuan Bajo, Likupang, and Mandalika to welcome tourist visits to B20 and after the G20 (KTT) event," concluded Sandiaga Uno.
