BATAM - The National SAR Agency (Basarnas) Tanjungpinang conducted a search for five victims of an overturned wooden ship accident in Kabil Waters, Batam City, Monday, November 14 at around 10:00 WIB.
"Yes, that's right, five people are still being searched, while one person was found dead and another person survived the incident of the overturned wooden ship last night," said Head of Tanjungpinang Basarnas Slamet Riyadi in a statement received by Antara in Batam, Tuesday, November 15.
The incident, said Slamet, began with a report from the Ship Traffic Service which reported that one person was found floating around the Kabil waters.
Receiving this information, Basarnas immediately went to the location to conduct a search.
At the location, Basarnas officers managed to find one victim who was safe named Zuraidah (45 years) from Aceh and one victim was found dead.
“ Of the survivors it is known that there were seven people on board the capsized ship, including the victim. We have found one more person dead, and five more people are still being searched, he said.
According to the victim's confession, the ship sailed from Batam to Malaysia. Currently, the survivors and those who died have been evacuated to the Bhayangkara Police Hospital in the Riau Islands Police.
