Indonesia And Turkey Agree To Strengthen Cooperation To Reduce Pollution And Share Environment Governance Experiences

JAKARTA - The Indonesian and Turkish governments have strengthened cooperation with the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) in the field of the environment and cooperation agreements in the forestry sector on the sidelines of a series of G20 Summit events in Bali. Minister of Environment and Forestry (LHK) Siti Nurbaya signed the MoU and a cooperation agreement with Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu and Turkish Minister of Agriculture and Forestry Vahit Kirisci.

The signing was carried out together with 4 other RI-Turkey agreement texts signed by officials of the two countries. The MoU in the environment aims to promote and strengthen the cooperation between the two countries in reducing pollution, as well as ensuring environmental sustainability through knowledge-sharing activities, experience, best practices and technology based on the principle of equality.

The scope of cooperation in the environmental sector includes environmental management, net production and sustainable consumption, chains of environmental compliance, biodiversity and protected areas, environmental information systems, and capacity building. Meanwhile, the objectives of cooperation agreements in the forestry sector are protection of natural resources, combat deforestation and forest fires, control of erosion, conservation and rehabilitation of existing forests. Both countries agreed to work together on the basis of equality, reciprocity and mutual benefit in their respective national laws and regulations. The scope includes forestry and land rehabilitation, integrated watershed management, mangrove conservation and rehabilitation, forest and land degradation, sustainable forest management, remote sensing, remote sensing, species conservation, and others.

The implementation of cooperation is realized in the form of exchanging technical information, exchanging staff, consultants, and personnel as well as increasing capacity through the implementation of joint workshops, meetings, seminars, training programs and study visits. Will also be prepared and implemented joint projects and encourage the involvement of relevant business entities and the development of joint projects, as reported by Antara, Monday, November 14.
