YOGYAKARTA - The Yogyakarta City Trade Office proposed the Prawirotaman Market to obtain the Indonesian National Standard (SNI) certificate as one of the local government's efforts to improve the quality of public services and consumer protection.
"The Prawirotaman market is the only traditional market in the city of Yogyakarta that is proposed for certification as a people's market with SNI status," said Head of the Yogyakarta City Trade Office Veronica Ambar Ismuwardani in Yogyakarta, Antara, Friday, November 11.
According to him, the submission was made because Prawirotaman Market was considered to have met three types of SNI certification requirements, namely general requirements, technical requirements, and market management requirements.
"We assess that the market has fulfilled the assessment for SNI 8152:2021," he said.
There are a total of 54 conditions that must be met as a market with SNI status, including legality, cleanliness, security, trading space, accessibility, zoning, parking area, loading and unloading, public facilities, CCTV, availability of clean water, waste management, to digitizing the people's market.
After being submitted for SNI certification, Prawirotaman Market then underwent an audit process conducted by the PPMB Product Certification Institute.
The audit process is continued with field monitoring to ensure the fulfillment of requirements, interviews, and checking documents.
"By obtaining an SNI certificate, we hope that traditional markets can continue to develop with good management so that they can compete with malls, plazas or other shopping centers," he said.
Previously, Prawirotaman Market also had time to undergo an assessment as a Healthy Market to support the efforts of the Yogyakarta City Government in assessing the Healthy City of 2022/2023.
Meanwhile, Yogyakarta City Regional Secretary Aman Yuriadijaya hopes that the good steps taken by Prawirotaman Market can be an example for other traditional markets in the city. In the city of Yogyakarta there are a total of 29 traditional markets.
"Thus, all traditional markets in Yogyakarta will meet standards in various aspects so that shopping at traditional markets will be safer and more comfortable," he said.
