JAKARTA - Minister of Home Affairs (Mendagri) Tito Karnavian inaugurated three acting (pj) governors of the new autonomous region (DOB) of the province in Papua, namely South Papua, Papua Mountains, and Central Papua. Apolo Safanpo was inaugurated as Acting Governor of South Papua, Nikolaus Kondomo as Acting Governor of Papua Mountains, and Ribka Haluk as Acting Governor of Central Papua. "Today, Friday, November 11, 2022, I, the Minister of Home Affairs on behalf of the President of the Republic of Indonesia, officially inaugurate Apolo Safanpo as Acting Governor of South Papua, Nikolaus Kondomo as Acting Governor of Papua Mountains, and Ribka Haluk as Acting Governor of Central Papua," Tito said at the inauguration ceremony of three governors of the Papua DOB at Plaza Gedung A Field, Head Office of the Ministry of Home Affairs, Jakarta, Antara, Friday, November 11. Apolo Safanpo is the Chancellor of the University of Cenderawasih Papua, Nikolaus Kondomo is the Head of the Papua High Prosecutor's Office (Kajati), and Ribka is the Head of the Papua Population and Civil Registry Social Service. The appointment and inauguration of the acting governor of the Papua DOB was carried out based on Presidential Decree (Keppres) Number 115/P/2022 concerning the Appointment of the Acting Governor. Tito delivered the statement after guiding the reading of the inauguration oath for the three governor officials. In his direction, Tito believes that the three acting governors of the new province in Papua can carry out their duties as well as possible. "I believe you will carry out your duties as well as possible in accordance with the responsibilities given," he said. Previously, the Government officially issued Papua into three provinces, namely Central Papua, Mountains Papua, and South Papua, after the DPR ratified three draft Papuan DOB laws (RUU) on June 30, 2022. Furthermore, the bill was passed by President Joko Widodo on July 25, 2022. The three laws are Law Number 14 of 2022 concerning the Establishment of South Papua Province, Law Number 15 of 2022 concerning the Establishment of Central Papua Province, and Law Number 16 of 2022 concerning the Establishment of the Papua Mountains Province. Based on the law on the formation of each new province, the acting governors will carry out a number of tasks, namely to organize local governments and form and fill regional apparatus according to the provisions of the law. They are also tasked with facilitating the formation of the Papuan People's Assembly (MRP) and the Papuan People's Representative Council (DPRP), the definitive election of governors and deputy governors, as well as managing regional finances according to the laws and regulations. In carrying out these tasks, Tito as Minister of Home Affairs is obliged to provide guidance, supervision, evaluation, and facilitate the performance of the three acting governors.
