YOGYAKARTA - The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) has stopped distributing clean water aid to a number of points in Sleman Regency, which had experienced drought due to the temporary closure of the Mataram Selokan flow.

"Because the repairs to the Mataram Selokan have been completed, the areas that were previously affected have now met their clean water needs," said the Head of the Sleman Regency BPBD, Makwan, in Sleman, Yogyakarta Special Region (DIY), quoted from Antara, Thursday, November 10.

Makwan said the repairs to the Mataram Selokan had been completed. Now the flow that was closed has also been reopened. In addition, the rainy season has dropped so that the residents' wells have been filled with water again.

"The rain that has come down since last month has been able to fill the wells of residents," he said.

He added, with the termination of the clean water assistance, as many as 10 units of public water hydrants (HU) installed in the affected areas were withdrawn.

"We have started to withdraw 10 units of HU," he said.

Previously, the BPBD of Sleman Regency distributed clean water assistance in several areas that experienced drought due to the temporary closure of the Mataram Selokan flow.

The maintenance and repair of the Mataram Selokan channel has caused the flow of water to be temporarily suspended for three months since August 1, 2022.

As a result of the temporary closure of the Mataram Selokan, several areas experienced water difficulties due to dry water from residents' wells.

Some of the affected areas are in Kapanewon (District) Seyegan and Tempel.

"In order to overcome the need for clean water and water for livestock needs, we have started distributing clean water aid in affected areas," he said.
