MUI: President Jokowi Has Tried Seriously For World Peace

JAKARTA - Deputy Chairperson of the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) KH Marsudi Syuhud said President Joko Widodo had made serious efforts towards world peace. This seriousness made Jokowi rewarded with the International Peace Award Imam Hasan bin Ali in 2022. "In my opinion, this award contains two things, the first is that President Joko Widodo has made serious efforts and efforts for world peace that has occurred for years," Marsudi said in a statement received in Jakarta, Antara, Wednesday, November 9. From the prolonged conflict of Muslim countries in the Middle East and Africa whose trend continues to grow, Marsudi continued, Jokowi was present as the carrier of peace, including efforts to reconcile Palestine, other conflict countries, and finally the conflict between Russia and Ukraine. The second meaning of the award, according to Marsudi, is that a brave head of state is still needed and has a firm stance to invite conflict countries to solve problems through dialogue and deliberation, because conflict countries have an increasing trend. This is as Jokowi came to Russia and Ukraine some time ago. Jokowi also invited those involved in conflict to sit down together, although difficult. However, said Marsudi, Jokowi tried hard to invite them to be able to have a dialogue at the G20 international forum. "From these efforts, I am sure that he will get these peace awards. I, Marsudi Syuhud, appreciate and are also proud as part of the Indonesian people who have a president who continues to strive to make concrete efforts to make world peace, as mandated by the 1945 Constitution of the Republic of Indonesia," he explained. These peace efforts deserve support and appreciation because they are in line with the efforts of world religious leaders, such as the meeting in Rome on the initiative of Sant'Egidio, R20 in Bali, the Dialogue of Religious Leaders in Bahrain, and the Inter-Religious Leader Dialogue which will be held by Global Peace Foundatin in the Philippines and India. "I support President Jokowi's peace efforts, because I myself feel the importance of these peace forums to continue to be promoted and I have followed them from decades ago since I was at PBNU and now at MUI; because the condition for a country to build is a peaceful country," said Marsudi Syuhud.
