JAKARTA - The Minister of Manpower (Menaker) Ida Fauziyah said the employment sector has continued to improve since 2020. Namely, there has been a significant decline in the working age population affected by the pandemic by the improvement in job creation. In a working meeting with Commission IX of the Indonesian House of Representatives, the Minister of Manpower Ida said, there were 29.12 million working-age residents affected by COVID-19, including unemployment or experiencing a reduction in working hours as of August 2020. This number decreased to 21.32 million people in August 2021. "Alhamdulillah, in August 2022 we will see the working age population affected by COVID-19 decline very significantly to 4.15 million people," said Ida in Jakarta, Antara, Tuesday, November 8. In addition, there has also been an improvement in job creation according to data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS). Data as of August 2022 shows the working population reaches 135.30 million people, an increase from 131.05 million people in the same month last year. Based on the business field, the majority of them work in the tertiary sector, which includes trade and services reaching 66.6 million people in August 2022. That number is compared to the primary sector, such as agriculture and forestry of 42.23 million people and secondary such as industry and construction as many as 28.47 million people. However, the majority of the working population is in the informal sector, which has increased compared to last year. There are 55.06 million people working in the informal sector in August 2022, out of 53.14 million people in 2021. Meanwhile, the formal sector has increased from 77.91 million people in 2021 to 80.24 million people in 2022. "In general, job creation after the COVID-19 pandemic increased by 4.25 million people. However, the creation of absorption growth was the largest contributor in the tertiary business field and the informal sector," said Ida Fauziyah.
