JAKARTA - The Central General Hospital (RSUP) dr. Sardjito Yogyakarta detected contamination of dietilen glycol or DEG in one pediatric patient suspected of having acute kidney problems.

Launching Antara, Sunday, RUSP dr. Sardjito has treated 12 pediatric patients aged seven months to 13 years who are suspected of having acute kidney problems.

"Of the 12 patients, only four patients can be tested for kidney biopsy, pathogenic panel examinations, and metagenomics, and three of them are also tested for blood and urine toxicology," said RSUP President Director dr. Sardjito Yogyakarta Eliarti.

"From the results of toxicology examinations in three patients, we found one patient with DEG. It is also known that the four patients have a history of taking sirop drugs," he said.

He also explained that the results of the examination of pathogenic panels showed that one child was infected with Adenovirus, two children were infected with the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus, one child was infected with the influenza virus, and one child was infected with Staphylococcus sp.

"The cause of acute kidney disorders may not only be one factor. From the results of the investigation in Yogyakarta, the cause cannot be concluded, because only three patients have been examined. This is very small to declare one knot," he said.

Child patients undergoing treatment at Dr. Sardjito Hospital Yogyakarta due to suspected acute kidney disorders, six of whom have recovered and six others have died.
