JATIM - Floods and landslides triggered by heavy rains again hit a number of areas in two sub-districts of Trenggalek Regency, East Java, Friday, November 4.

BPBD Trenggalek confirmed that at least eight villages in the southern coastal area were affected.

"Flooding occurred in Munjungan and Watulimo sub-districts, all of which are in the southern coastal area of Trenggalek," said BPBD Secretary Trenggalek Tri Puspita Sari, quoted from Antara.

There have been no reports of casualties so far. However, sporadic floods and landslides caused a number of road and bridge infrastructure to be damaged.

Landslides on the Watulimo-Kampak-Munjungan route even closed road access so that traffic flow cut completely.

In the Munjungan District area, floods hit a number of points in Tawing, Bangun, Munjungan, and Bendoroto villages.

Meanwhile, in Watulimo District, flash floods hit most areas of Karangandu Village, Prigi, Tasikmadu and Sawahan Village.

According to Tri, the flood that occurred in the two sub-districts was triggered by overflowing river water because it was unable to stem the increasing water discharge.

This hydrometeorological disaster occurred due to high rainfall that flushed the Trenggalek area from 16.00 WIB to 22.00 WIB.

As a result, the water overflowed into the road to the residents' houses.

The water level varies. Like the overflow of the Central River in Tawing Village, it inundated residential roads as high as 30 centimeters to 100 centimeters. The overflow of water even had time to enter people's homes with an average height of up to 50 centimeters.

"The condition is the same as in Tasikmadu Village. Heavy rains made the Gading River overflow and water entered residential areas with a height of 30-40 centimeters," he said.

As a result of the floods and landslides, residents are currently working together to clean up.

Joint officers are also still identifying in the field about the impacts caused by the hydrometeorological disaster.

The Trenggalek Regency Government also reacted quickly to take strategic steps to deal with the flood.

These steps include carrying out short-term handling including aspects of logistical availability to affected public health.

Several bridges have broken, it is possible that some people were isolated by the impact of the rain last night in Watulimo and Munjungan. This morning we and the team will go to the location. They carry out emergency handling and prepare for long-term rehabilitation and reconstruction," said Trenggalek Regent Mochamad Nur Arifin.
