JAKARTA - Tarakan Agricultural Quarantine released a Green Cucak bird in Krikil Juwata Forest, Tarakan City, North Kalimantan (Kaltara), to keep the animal population starting to decrease in number.

"This activity is intended to keep the population of the reduced number of Green Cucak birds," said Tarakan Agricultural Quarantine Head Ahmad Mansuri Alfian in an official statement in Jakarta, Friday, November 4.

The release was carried out with the local Natural Resources Conservation Center (BKSDA) and the Tarakan City Forest Management Unit to ensure the location meets security requirements.

The BKSDA has included Green Cucak in the category of rare and protected animals. This melodious voice task force, apart from being found in various regions in Indonesia, is also in Brunei, Malaysia, Myanmar, Singapore, and Thailand.

Green Cucak birds, which now tend to decline in numbers, used to be common in Kalimantan, Java, and Sumatra.

Alfian explained that there are many types of Kalimantan birds that are of interest to residents, but awareness is needed of all elements of society to maintain the ecosystem and population.

"The island of Kalimantan is blessed with extraordinary biodiversity. Do not let this wealth cannot be enjoyed by our children and grandchildren," said Alfian.

Alfian said the release of the Green Cucak was in line with the main tasks and functions of the Agricultural Quarantine Agency.

Head of the Agricultural Quarantine Agency of the Ministry of Agriculture (Kementan) Bambang on various occasions emphasized that the task of preventing pests from animal and plant diseases is not only about enforcing quarantine regulations for animals and plants. However, it includes protection of genetic resources from extinction.

The protection of the population of Green Cucak birds has been carried out by the Tarakan Agricultural Quarantine so that the entire working area of Tarakan Agricultural Quarantine no longer certifies the issuance of Green Cucak birds.

"I emphasize that Tarakan Agricultural Quarantine always carries out quarantine measures in accordance with the mandate of the law. This is for the sustainability of biological resources on our island," said Alfian.
