9 Houses In Demak Collapsed, 32 Were Badly Damaged By The Waves

DEMAK - Nine houses of residents in Sayung District, Demak Regency, Central Java, collapsed and 32 houses were badly damaged due to being hit by sea waves and strong winds.

"As a result of the incident, around 161 residents of Bedono Village, Sayung Sub-district, Demak were forced to flee to a number of safe places, including the RW hall and the local mosque," said the head of the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) Demak Regency Agus Nugroho in Demak. quoted Antara, Tuesday, December 8.

Agus noted that the houses of residents affected by the waves and strong winds were scattered in Bedono Hamlet, Tambaksari Hamlet and Pandansari Hamlet.

Waves and strong winds that caused people's houses to collapse and were heavily damaged, are expected to occur on Tuesday (8/12) at 00.30 WIB.

"At the time of the incident, Demak Regency was in rainy conditions accompanied by strong winds," he said.

Based on the weather forecast from the BMKG, the wave height in the North Java Sea ranges from 1-3 meters.

There is also a loss due to this incident, estimated at Rp. 600 million because nine houses collapsed and 32 houses were severely damaged.

Demak BPBD has also distributed basic necessities, clothes and blankets to residents who are currently displaced.
