Minister Of Manpower: Companies Are Required To Pay Wages For Workers Who Enter The Election For The Next Election

JAKARTA - Minister of Manpower Ida Fauziyah issued Circular Letter Number M / 14 / HK.04 / XII / 2020 concerning Holidays for Workers / Laborers on Election Day for Governor and Deputy Governor, Regent and Deputy Regent, as well as Mayor and Deputy Mayor 2020 year.

In the letter, Ida reminded employers to provide opportunities for workers or laborers to exercise their voting rights.

"For workers / laborers whose regions carry out the election and have to work on voting day, the employer regulates working hours in such a way that workers / laborers can exercise their voting rights," said Menaker Ida in a press release from the Ministry of Manpower's Public Relations Bureau quoted on Tuesday, December 8.

Ida said, if companies still require workers to come to work outside the 270 regions holding the 2020 Pilkada, then there must be overtime pay and other rights in accordance with statutory provisions.

"Workers / laborers whose regions do not carry out the Pilkada and still have to come to work, then the implementation of their rights is the same, namely the right to overtime pay and other rights," he said.

Ida reminded workers, employers and all stakeholders to exercise their voting rights in the Pilkada, while still implementing strict health protocols.

"Currently, we are still in a pandemic situation for COVID-19. Always strictly adhere to health protocols, so that we remain productive and safe from COVID-19, "he said.

The government previously set the simultaneous election day for the 9 December 2020 Pilkada as a national holiday.

This determination is based on Presidential Decree (Keppres) Number 22 of 2020 concerning Voting Day for the Election of Governors and Deputy Governors, Regents and Deputy Regents as well as Mayors and Deputy Mayors in 2020 as a national holiday.

"To determine Wednesday 9 December 2020 as a national holiday in the context of the election for the Governor and Deputy Governor, the Regent and Deputy Regent, as well as the Mayor and Deputy Mayor simultaneously," Jokowi wrote in the decision.
