KARIMUN - The tanker MT Young Yong with the national flag Djibouti ran aground in the waters of the Singapore Strait near Tekong Kecil Island, Batam, Riau Islands. Anticipating the incident, MT Young Yong's cargo was moved.

The transfer was carried out by the Class I Port Authority and Port Authority Office (KSOP) Tanjung Balai Karimun on Tuesday, November 1.

"Because around the location there is an underwater gas pipe to Singapore, so as soon as possible a cargo transfer is carried out," he said.

Separately, the Commander of the Marapas Marine Captain (P) Almahdi said the Patrol Ship Unit (Satrol) Lantamal IV, in this case the Marapas I-4-65 KAL, had carried out further patrols of the tanker.

"This patrol aims to anticipate crude oil leakage in cargo tanks and does not interfere with the TSS (Traffic Separation Scheme) Singapore-Indonesia traffic," he said.

In addition, his party also carried out dives to check all parts of the ship. "But for this dive it was nil, because the current was so strong," he added.

The tanker MT Young Yong ran aground on Thursday, October 27 evening, at around 20.18 WIB.

The ship departed from Tanjung Pelepa Port, Malaysia on October 18, 2022 to Nipa Island, Karimun, Riau Islands. However, the ship's destination has not yet run aground.

The location of the ship ran aground is above the Indonesian gas pipeline to Singapore.

The tanker has a length of 320,28 meters and a width of 58.00 meters and is known to be loaded with fuel oil as much as 284,429 tons, so the evacuation process is carried out by KSOP carefully.
