JAKARTA - Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi reminded the United States to stop pressuring China and creating obstacles to bilateral relations between the two countries, while speaking with his Washington counterpart Antony Blinken.

During the phone call, Secretary of State Blinken said the US had been paying attention to the 20th National Congress and reports to Congress. Meanwhile, Foreign Minister Wang emphasized his commitment to pursuing stability and constructive relations, but will defend China's interests in the face of US provocations.

Foreign Minister Wang said the important signal conveyed by the 20th National Congress of the CPC (Chinese Communist Party) is that China will stick to diplomatic principles to support world peace and promote mutual development, commit to the fundamental national policy of opening up the outside world, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Furthermore, promoting progress for mankind through China's modernization and bringing new opportunities to the world through China's new development, which is China's way of injecting maximum stability into a chaotic world, the ministry continued.

"China's diplomatic and domestic policies are open and transparent. And the US must not be blinded by ideology," Foreign Minister Wang said, quoted by the Global Times on November 1.

Foreign Minister Wang also warned that the new US restrictions on exports and investment in China, are in gross violation of the free trade agreement, damage China's legitimate interests and must be corrected.

Meanwhile, Foreign Minister Blinken expressed the United States' willingness to maintain communication and establish cooperation with China.

In the call, Secretary of State Blinken also discussed Russia's war against Ukraine and the threats it poses to global security and economic stability, the US State Department said in a separate statement.

The United States has repeatedly stressed the need to maintain open lines of communication between the two countries, but has also recently highlighted the implications if Beijing supports Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

State Department spokesman Ned Price told a news conference the phone call lasting about 70 minutes was productive and professional.

"Any idea that our policies are aimed at China or any other country around the world is incorrect. It is true, of course, that we have deep disagreements with the PRC (People's Republic of China) on a number of fronts," Price said.

He added that Washington had not heard anything new from Foreign Minister Wang about China's approach to the Russian war.
