JAKARTA - The producer of the Unibebi sirop drug, PT Universal Pharmaceutical Industries, reported PT Logicom Solution to the North Sumatra Police on suspicion of fraud related to the distribution of medicinal raw materials.
One of the legal team of PT Universal Pharmaceutical Industries, Hermansyah Hutagalung, during a press conference in Medan City, Saturday, October 29, said that PT Logicom Solution was suspected of committing fraud following the discovery of ethilen glycol (EG) contamination that exceeded the threshold on Unibebi's sirop drug.
"After we found out the results crossed a safe threshold, we immediately made a report to the North Sumatra Police," said Hermansyah, as quoted by Antara.
He said if the alleged fraud was proven, then PT Universal Pharmaceutical Industries and the pharmaceutical industry would become victims of irresponsible act of supplying raw materials.
"So far Universal Pharmaceutical has always kept its products safe. Regarding this issue, we tested the sample. So we think that she (Logicom Solution) has committed fraud against our company," he explained.
Herman said the report on the alleged fraud to the North Sumatra Police was based on the Police Report Receipt Letter Number STTLP/B/1918/X/2022/SPKT/Polda North Sumatra dated October 28, 2022.
"We initially thought whether to use articles on the Health and Consumer Law; however, because (the reported is) a supplier, we used the article on fraud, the evidence is the certificate analysis they prepared," he said.
He also conveyed evidence that confirmed his party reporting PT Logicom Solution for fraud, because the results of the laboratory and certificate belonging to PT Logicom Solution were not appropriate.
"The results of our version of the lab (laboratorium) with a certification analysis that they guarantee are safe, inappropriate; so use the article on fraud as a product that is sold to us," he said.
Herman requested that the report be thoroughly investigated and can be forwarded to the National Police Headquarters.
"We consider this report as a report that can be forwarded to the National Police Headquarters so that it can be followed up in Certain Crimes or Tipiters at the National Police Headquarters; and our report should appear immediately," said Herman.
He asked related parties to investigate PT Logicom Solution because his client had implemented policies in accordance with standard operating procedures (SOPs).
"We ask those responsible for being investigated by raw material providers, because the mechanism for providing raw materials to our company is certain to use certification analysis. Because, in providing raw materials, suppliers provide certificates that explain these raw materials," he explained.
PT Universal Pharmaceutical Industries withdrew all Unibebi sirop drug products from the market following the findings of the Food and Drug Supervisory Agency (BPOM) which suspected that Unibebi's sirop drug contained EG exceeded the safe threshold.
"Currently we convey, the results exceed the safe threshold," he said.
He mentioned about 185,000 bottles of Unibebi sirop in the field, both in pharmacies, hospitals, drug stores, and others, according to the records of PT Universal Pharmaceutical Industries. Now, all these drugs are being withdrawn from the market throughout Indonesia.
"The withdrawn Unibebi products are Unibebi Cough Sirup 173,880 bottles and Unibebi Fever Drop 11,232 bottles. In Medan, the number is 67,176 bottles, all of which are withdrawn because we are responsible and obedient to BPOM," he said.
