Poboya's Gold Mining Conflict Covering An Area Of 25 Hectares, Komnas HAM WARns Persuasive Handling

The National Human Rights Commission (Komnas HAM) representative of Central Sulawesi (Central Sulawesi) asked for a persuasive approach in resolving conflicts in the contract area of PT Citra Palu Mineral's gold mining work in Poboya Village, Palu City,

"It must be resolved persuasively between the citizens and the company and the provincial government so that unwanted things do not occur," said Chairman of the Central Sulawesi National Human Rights Commission, Dedy Askari, in Palu City, Friday, October 28.

He explained that his institution together with the local government and PT CPM had held a meeting to discuss problems and efforts to resolve conflicts with indigenous peoples of Poboya Village.

"Regarding the fulfillment of the right to community welfare, on September 28, 2022, a meeting was held, and on October 22, 2022, there was a road closure, so we asked the public to open a blockade," he explained.

According to Dedi, until now there has been no decision regarding the Central Sulawesi Governor's request to the company so that 25 hectares of mining land is used as a location for people's mines.

However, based on an agreement with the public, starting from September 28, 2022, PT CPM provided 10 dams of daily trucks.

"The agreement is that the company provides materials directly appointed by the community, but since October 22, 2022 there have been complaints and road closures have occurred," said Dedi.

Meanwhile, Expert Staff to the Governor of Central Sulawesi Ridha Saleh added that road closures carried out by the community were related to the quality of materials provided by the company.

"People themselves appoint materials and have been given by the company, the reason is that the material is no longer suitable for entering the processing of the thromol," said Ridha.

According to Ridha, the current government has sought to open public mines in accordance with the wishes made by the community.

"In this period of transition to permanent arrangement, we hope the public will be patient because what will be considered in the future is the management of 25 hectares and other techniques," said Ridha.
