The Center for Drug and Food Control (BBPOM) Padang, West Sumatra noted, 12 thousand bottles of illegal sirop drugs have been withdrawn from producers.
"We continue to monitor and oversee the process of withdrawing the five types of sirop drugs from the market until now, which have been withdrawn to be destroyed by producers reaching 12 thousand bottles," said Head of BBPOM Padang Abdul Rahim in Padang, Antara, Thursday, October 27.
A total of 12 thousand bottles ofORous drugs are combined from five types of medicinal products that are prohibited and their circulation is withdrawn by BPOM because Etylene Glikol (EG) contamination exceeds a safe threshold, as announced on October 20, 2022.
The withdrawal was carried out in various distribution stores in all regencies or cities in West Sumatra, including Mentawai Islands Regency.
The distribution shops are major pharmaceutical traders, government pharmaceutical installations, pharmacies, hospital pharmacy installations, health centers, clinics, drug stores, and independent practices of health workers.
The West Sumatra BBPOM team will continue to oversee the process of withdrawing the drug so that it is not in the market in West Sumatra as a whole.
"The tens of thousands of bottles that have been withdrawn do not cover all drugs circulating in West Sumatra, therefore we continue to monitor and supervise every day," he said.
He said the sirop drug that had not been withdrawn by the manufacturer was still in the store, where owners or distribution store managers had set aside from other drugs.
"Basically, the distribution outlet owner (store) is aware of the prohibition against these five types of sirop drugs and has separated them, but we are still monitoring them so they are not sold," he said.
To the public, his party recommends direct treatment to a doctor when a child is sick for safety and health.
Previously, BPOM had announced five sirop drugs containing Etilon Glikol (EG) and Dietilen Glikol (DEG) exceeding the specified threshold and had been asked to withdraw the product from the market.
