South Solok Police arrested four suspected gold miners without permission in the Batang Ligawan River area, Sangir Batang Hari District. It took two days to arrive at the location of the arrest.

Wakapolres Kompol Yonnis Fendri said the suspected miners who were arrested had their respective roles.

They are DF (21) acting as excavator heavy equipment operators, AE (48) field managers, TH (25) excavator assistants, and RM (47) asbuk members.

Yonnis explained that the arrests of the four suspects were based on reports from the public about illegal mining activities on the slopes of the Batang Ligawan River, Sangir Batang Hari District, South Solok.

Responding to that, the officers then immediately traced the truth of the report.

After traveling for two days, because they had to cross rivers and hills, officers managed to find the location of the illegal gold mining activity and then took action on Saturday, October 22.

During the action, the South Solok Police also secured evidence, including one yellow Sany brand excavator, one dompeng machine, a gold filter carpet, one water hose, one piece of spiral hose and one piece of gauge hose.

Yonnis said the four suspects along with evidence are currently at the South Solok Police Headquarters. For the suspects, the police conducted further investigations.

The suspects are also subject to Article 158 of Law no. 3 of 2020 concerning amendments to Law no. 4 of 2009 concerning mineral and coal mining. Where everyone who performs mining without a permit as referred to in Article 35 shall be punished with a maximum imprisonment of 5 years and a maximum fine of Rp. 100 billion.
