JAMBI - The Jambi Provincial Health Office has so far recorded four cases of acute kidney failure in children in their area. Two cases cause death. Head of the Jambi Provincial Health Office, Fery Kusnadi, said that two of the four pediatric patients who had acute kidney problems underwent treatment at Raden Mattaher Jambi Hospital. One patient was referred to the Central General Hospital (RSUP) M Djamil Padang (West Sumatra) and one patient was referred to Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Hospital Palembang (South Sumatra). According to Fery, an acute kidney failure patient undergoing treatment at RSUP M Djamil Padang and RSUP Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Palembang died. "In the Jambi Province, there are a total of 11 children who are suspected of having acute kidney problems, but after the examination, only four children were confirmed to have acute kidney failure," he explained in Jambi as reported by Antara, Wednesday, October 26. Children suspected of having acute kidney problems came from Jambi City, Muaro Jambi, and Kerinci. Fery said that the Jambi Provincial Health Office coordinated with the district/city government to improve services for kidney disorders patients. "We hope that Raden Mattaher Hospital can do dialysis on children, so we hope that there will be healing if there are cases of kidney failure in children," he said. In addition, he said, the agency had submitted a circular to the district/city level health office to oversee the withdrawal of sirop medicinal products containing glycol ethilen contamination exceeding the safe threshold. Ethylent glycol was found in a sirop drug consumed by pediatric patients who had acute kidney failure. The Jambi Provincial Health Office also asked the managers of health facilities and pharmacies to carry out instructions from the Ministry of Health to temporarily stop the use and sale of prepared drugs in the form of liquids or sirops.
