Ufa Submarine Will Join The Russian Navy November: Most Competitive, Equipped With Kalibr Missiles

JAKARTA - If there are no obstacles, the Ufa diesel-electric submarine will enter Russian Navy service next month, said Commander of the Russian Navy Admiral Nikolay Yevmenov.

"The Ufa large diesel-electric submarine from Project 636 will enter service with the Navy in November," the Russian Defense Ministry quoted the commander as saying in a working meeting.

According to Yevmenov, the Admiralty Shipyard will complete the submarine maritime test in the Baltic Sea. Currently, the submarine has returned to the ship to undergo "final examination and finishing work as part of preparation for the signing of the deed of admission," he said.

It is known, Ufa is the fourth submarine of his family to be built for the Pacific Fleet. The submarine was launched in November 2019.

Project 636.3 submarines (Improved Kilo according to NATO classification) are the third most voiceless diesel-electric submarines in the world.

This type of ship is capable of reaching an underwater speed of up to 20 knots, diving to a depth of 300 meters and has a cruising capacity of 45 days.

Weighing nearly four thousand tons, this submarine is manned by 52 people. The submarine is armed with Kalibr missiles to attack the surface (3M-54 and 3M-541) and ground targets (crossing missiles 3M-14), and has new electronic equipment.

Citing Port News, the contract for the Kilo-class submarine series was signed in September 2016, as part of a long-term plan by the Russian Ministry of Defense, to strengthen the Russian Navy's combat readiness and a program to upgrade diesel-electric submarines.

There are a total of six ships in this project. The plan is that the entire series will be sent to the Russian Navy by 2024.
