The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Duga Rector Of Unila Karomani Kerap Terima Maba Via The Bribe Line

JAKARTA - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) suspects that the practice of bribery for accepting new students at the University of Lampung (Unila) often occurs. The confidant of the inactive Unila Chancellor, Karomani, is suspected of spreading the information to many parties.

Acting KPK spokesman Ipi Maryati said this allegation was investigated through two witnesses who were examined on Friday, October 21. They are Hanafiah Hamidi who is an entrepreneur and doctor named Zam Zanariah.

"The two witnesses were present and their knowledge was investigated, among others, related to the alleged existence of information through KRM suspects who were able to pass the maba selection participants without going through the proper procedure," said Ipi in a written statement, Monday, October 24.

Not only that, the KPK also examined two other witnesses to investigate the fraudulent practices carried out by Karomani. They are the Coordinator of the ICT for the West SNMPTN Committee Anis Fuad and Public Relations of the 2022 Unila New Student Admission Muhammad Komarudin.

Ipi said the two were asked for information regarding the selection process for new students in Unila. Investigators asked them to explain the mechanism that should be implemented in the process of accepting students at the state campus.

"His knowledge was explored, among other things, related to the selection mechanism for accepting maba Unila," he said.

As previously reported, the KPK has named four suspects in the alleged bribery of accepting new students at the University of Lampung in 2022. The determination of this suspect began with a hand arrest operation carried out in Lampung, Bandung, and Bali.

The suspects involved in this case are the Chancellor of the University of Lampung 2020-2024 Karomani; Vice Chancellor I for Academic Affairs of Lampung University Heryandi; Senate Chair of Lampung University Muhammad Basri; and private Andi Desfiandi.

In this case, Karomani allegedly set a price for prospective new students on campus with a range of Rp. 100 million to Rp. 350 million while carrying out the Independent Selection to Enter Lampung University (Simanila). This request was made after Heryandi and Muhammad Basri personally selected the ability of parents to pay.

From his actions, Karomani allegedly managed to collect Rp603 million from a lecturer named Mualimin. Furthermore, he used the money he received for personal purposes amounting to Rp575 million.

Meanwhile, from Muhammad Basri and Budi Sutomo, who are the Head of the Planning and Public Relations Bureau of the University of Lampung, it is suspected that the total money received by Karomani reached Rp4.4 billion. This money was later transferred to deposit savings, gold bars, and some were still in the form of cash.
