BPOM Make Sure 133 Sirop Drugs Don't Use 4 Solvents, It's Safe To Use According To The Rules

JAKARTA - Head of the Food and Drug Supervisory Agency (BPOM) Penny K. Lukito said, as many as 133 sirop drugs registered with BPOM have been confirmed not to use the solvent of glycol propylene, glycol polyethylene, sorbitol, and/or glycerin/gliserol. "Of the 133 drug circles registered with the POM, they do not use the four solvents, namely glycol propylene, glycol polyethylene, sorbitol, and/or glycerin/glycerol so that it is safe as long as it is used according to the rules of use," he said at a press conference in Jakarta, Antara, Sunday, October 23. His party also conducted a search for registration data on 102 sirop drugs that were included in the Ministry of Health list regarding atypical progressive acute kidney disorders (acute kidney injury/AKI). As a result, 23 drugs were confirmed not to use the four solvents so that they were safe to use as long as they were in accordance with the usage rules. Seven products have been tested and declared safe to use as long as they comply with usage rules. Meanwhile, three products have been tested and declared to contain ethilen glycol (EG) contamination and dietilen glycol (DEG) exceeding the safe threshold. All three are included in the five products previously announced by BPOM. "Until now, there are 69 more products that are still in the process of sampling and testing. As soon as possible we will issue them in stages," explained Penny. On that occasion, he said the findings of BPOM related to solvents did not mean that it was a conclusion that the four ingredients had something to do with kidney disorders. "The results of this EG and DEG contamination test do not mean saying or supporting the conclusion that the use of the drug sirop has a connection because it is due to the incidence of acute kidney disorders in children," said Penny K Lukito.
