The police said that the main route connecting Garut with Banjarwangi in the southern region of Garut Regency, West Java, which had been covered by landslides, had returned to normal through motorized vehicles from both directions, Sunday, October 23.

Head of the Banjarwangi Police, Iptu Amirudin Latif, said that the main route in Banjarwangi with other sub-districts and to the urban area of Garut was covered by landslides on Saturday, October 22, then joint officers tried to reopen the route so that people could return to their normal activities.

"Alhamdulillah, it has been smooth from two points and has been cleaned," said Amirudin, Sunday, October 23.

He said that heavy rains that flushed the Garut area caused landslides in the Banjarwangi area, then covered the road so that motorized vehicles could not pass through the road.

Joint officers with the community, he continued, immediately went to the landslide location to clean up the landslide material that covered the road.

Even though the road has returned to normal, said Amirudin, people who pass the route must remain vigilant. Mainly when it rains because there may be another landslide.

"Still have to be vigilant and careful because the road is slippery and has holes, the possibility of further landslides at the same point," he said.

He conveyed that his staff together with the TNI, as well as the local government and the community continue to monitor areas that are prone to landslides.

According to him, the main road for Banjarwangi-Garut, precisely in Ciawitali Village, Tanjungjaya Village, there is still movement of land that has the potential for further landslides.

"People are aware of the potential for further landslides, because in the field we see that there is still ground movement at the landslide point," he said.
