JAKARTA - Liz Truss' resignation from her position as British Prime Minister attracted attention, including Russia, which often exchanged criticisms with Britain.

British Prime Minister Liz Truss announced her resignation just six weeks after being sworn in, the impact of an economic program that shocked financial markets and divides the Conservative Party.

Speaking outside the office door No. 10 Downing Street, London, last Thursday, Truss accepted that she could not fulfill the promise she made when she ran for Conservative leader, for losing the trust of her party.

The Russian Foreign Ministry welcomed Liz Truss' departure Thursday saying she was the disgrace of a leader to be remembered for her "letterless catastrophe".

"The UK has never known the disgrace of a prime minister," Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said in a social media post.

Meanwhile, former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev wrote on Twitter in English: "Trussliz, congrats to lettuce", referring to a live broadcast of the Daily Star tabloid asking whether Truss' problematic prime ministerial position would last longer than the lifespan ofcreation.

Truss' resignation drew wide and happy coverage on Russian state television. A guest on the flagship political talk show "Time Will Tell" said Truss had three traits needed to develop in British politics: "Stupidity, arrogance, and hostility".

Lizz Truss has been the target of scathing comments from Moscow since she visited in February, as part of a futile effort by Western politicians to prevent Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

The term illiteracy appears to refer to the overseas trip Truss did while still serving as foreign minister.

During a meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, he looked confused about the two regions of Russia and Ukraine, causing ridicule in Russian media.

Russian officials from the start looked at Truss' post as prime minister and had 'enjoyed' many mistakes.

After his appointment in September, Lavrov said Truss did not know how to compromise, questioning how the British leader could say he did not know whether French President Emmanuel Macron was an 'friend or enemy'.

Zakharova also mocked Truss' high-profile photo shoot in Estonia last year, where she wore a jacket and helmet to ride the tank during a visit to British troops stationed in the Baltic state.

It is known that relations between Moscow and London have slumped to their lowest level in decades, even before Russia invaded Ukraine, triggered by the poisoning of former Russian spy Sergei Skripal in the British city of Salisbury in 2018.
