CIANJUR - Cianjur Police, West Java, arrested a housewife from Pacet District, Cianjur named Novi (31) for being involved in a fraudulent online social gathering. The number of victims in this case reached 22 people with a total loss of IDR 1.2 billion. Cianjur Police Chief, AKBP Doni Hermawan said that in carrying out the action Novi was assisted by other perpetrators with the initials SL. SLI is currently being hunted by officers. Perpetrators lure victims of social gathering participants with various benefits including bonuses to invite others. "The victim was lured with a big bonus, including profits when he got other participants. During the action, the social gathering payment for the winner went normal, but after four months, the perpetrator argued a lot and disappeared," he said in Cianjur as quoted by Antara, Thursday, October 20. The arisan participants became suspicious and had time to go to the perpetrators because they always promised to pay the winning participants' money immediately. However, after waiting months the money they deposited never came back. Including the promised bonuses. The victims then reported it to the authorities. Officers who received the report immediately secured the perpetrator Novi who had fled from the city to avoid social gathering participants who came to his house every day. In front of the officers, the perpetrator admitted that he had used the money from the participants for daily needs and foya-foya. "The money received from participants amounting to Rp 1.2 billion has been returned in the amount of Rp 500 million, while the rest is used for maintenance, buying daily necessities and furniture, so that the perpetrators cannot return the money to participants who have been deceived," he said. For his actions, the perpetrators will be charged with Article 378 of the Criminal Code and or Article 372 of the Criminal Code with a penalty of approximately 4 years in prison.
