The Ministry Of Health Finds Compounds In Drug Patients Alleged To Beactivaters To Fail An Acute KidGY In Children

JAKARTA - The Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) has found traces of compounds that have the potential to cause mysterious acute kidney failure in children. The compounds are found in the remaining samples of drugs consumed by patients in Indonesia.

"The findings came from an examination in Indonesia, but the compounds cannot be concluded yet. Because of these initial findings, the government is trying to take anticipatory steps," said Head of the Ministry of Health's Public Communications and Services Bureau, Siti Nadia Tarmizi, confirmed in Jakarta, Wednesday, October 18.

Spokesperson for the Ministry of Health, Mohammad Syahril, added that efforts to prevent the government's rate of acute kidney failure cases have been carried out by temporarily stopping the sale ofrahous drugs.

In addition, the government has also issued guidelines for handling patients in health care facilities.

"To increase vigilance and in the context of prevention, the Ministry of Health has asked health workers at health care facilities, while this does not prescribing drugs in the form of liquid orANGulation preparations, until the results of the search and research are complete," he said.

He said the Ministry of Health also asked all pharmacies not to temporarily sell free drugs in the form ofETting to the public until the results of the search and research were completed.

"The Ministry of Health urges the public to treat children, while not taking drugs in the form ofmenustries without consulting with health workers," he said.

As an alternative, said Syahril, people can use other forms of preparation such as tablets, capsules, suppositoria (anal), or others.

According to Syahril, it is necessary to be aware of parents who have toddlers with symptoms of decreased urine volume, because it is a specific symptom of acute kidney failure.

Other accompanying symptoms were fever, diarrhea, cough, runny nose, nausea and vomiting. "Immediately referred to the nearest health facility if there are symptoms," he said.

As a first step towards reducing the death rate due to acute kidney failure, the Ministry of Health through Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital has purchased antidotum which is imported directly from abroad as an alternative toemic drugs.

Since the end of August 2022, the Ministry of Health and the Indonesian Pediatrician Association (IDAI) have received reports of an increase in cases of Atypical Acute Internal Medicine/Aute Kidney Injury (AKI), mainly experienced by children under the age of 5.

"The increase in cases is different from the previous one, and currently the cause is still under research and research," he said.

Based on Antara's report, the number of cases of mysterious acute kidney failure in children as of October 18, 2022, totaled 206 detected in 20 provinces of Indonesia. With details, the death toll is 99 children, 65 percent of whom are being treated at the RSCM.

The Ministry of Health together with BPOM, Epidemiologists, IDAI, Farmakologists and the National Police's Forensic Laboratory conducted laboratory tests to ascertain the exact cause and risk factors that caused acute kidney problems.

"From the results of the examination, there is no evidence of an acute kidney failure relationship with the COVID-19 vaccine or COVID-19 infection. Because it generally attacks children aged less than 6 years, while the vaccination program has not targeted children aged 1 to 5 years," he said.
