JAKARTA - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has asked for the use of village funds to be watched. Moreover, the budget spent to investigate allegations of corruption in funds from the central government is quite large.

"If there has been a criminal act of corruption, such as the incident in Sumba, there is a village head who is corrupt, how much will it cost to process it in the capital court," said KPK Deputy Chair Alexander Marwata in a written statement, Wednesday, October 19.

Alexander reminded that there should be no more costs for investigating allegations of corruption that are more expensive than the total money obtained by the perpetrators. Auditors are asked to maximize corruption prevention.

He emphasized that the KPK cannot work alone. All parties, including BPKP, BPK, and the Inspectorate must participate in preventing corruption in village funds.

"We hope that the synergy of KPK, BPKP, BPK, and the Inspectorate will jointly prevent irregularities in corruption in the regions with the community," he said.

Alexander said it was not only his institution that had a duty to eradicate corruption. Auditors also have a role to play in overseeing the use of the budget.

They were asked to continue to work optimally so that village funds would not become bankrupted. "I also remind you, it is not only the KPK that plays a role in eradicating corruption, but auditors who have a supervisory function," said Alexander.

"Eradication of corruption must be carried out in a synergy to be more effective," he concluded.
