Bantul Police Chief AKPB Ihsan Kapolsek instructed all police chiefs in the district in the Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY) to intensify raids on liquor.
The police chief's order follows that three people died from drinking mixed liquor on Thursday, October 13.
"I collect all the police chiefs to carry out liquor raids and I will give them targets," said AKPB Ihsan in Bantul, DIY, quoted from Antara, Wednesday, October 19.
He said that members of the police and police officers had routinely raided liquor and destroyed evidence of bottles containing drinks that had been secured by officers.
"I will give the police chief a target, the most will be given a'reward' or award, including one that is certainly my assessment regarding the performance of the police chief," he said.
The police chief said that by intensifying liquor raids, it is hoped that it can create a conducive security and public order situation in Bantul, considering that liquor can trigger people to commit crimes.
"We will give a target. Our target is to eradicate the circulation of liquor in the Bantul area so that the next victims do not occur. Alcohol is the root of all crime, and usually people abuse them because they were previously drunk," he said.
The Bantul Police previously received reports that three people died after drinking adulterated liquor in one of the houses of the deceased in Kowang Hamlet, Trimulyo Village, Jetis, Bantul, on Thursday, October 13, at around 20.00 WIB.
Regarding the case, he has ordered the Jetis Police Chief to immediately make a report as the basis for the police investigation to shed light on the case.
"Currently the process is still ongoing and we have secured some liquor which the victims and the people there allegedly drank. So it is still in the process of being investigated," he said.
He said the police together with the Jetis Police were planning an autopsy on the body of the deceased to determine the exact cause of death, but it was necessary to communicate it first with the victim's family.
"Yes, we plan, but back to his family again, the autopsy must get the approval of the family, if the family does not want us to do nothing. So return to the family, if they agree, then we will do an autopsy," he said.
