Garut Deputy Regent Helmi Budiman went directly to the field to check the condition of the state elementary school building which was reported to be damaged in the Garut Regency, West Java Province. "I have to verify in the field, what kind of conditions are there, what kind of conditions are there," Helmi said while reviewing the condition of school buildings at SDN Mekarwangi 1 and 2, Tarogong Kaler District, Garut Regency, Antara, Tuesday, October 18. Helmi conducted a school inspection to verify the Garut Education Office's report on heavily damaged classrooms and required improvement. According to him, data from the Garut Education Office is very different from the Basic Education Data (Dapodik) which shows the number of classrooms that are heavily damaged and require rehabilitation of no more than 50 classrooms. "Information from the data collection carried out by the Education Office with Bappeda is 900 to 1,000 classes, this is a striking difference (with) that was submitted through the Dapodik," he said. Therefore, Helmi said, the local government formed a team that included representatives from a number of agencies including the Education Office, Public Works and Spatial Planning Office, Housing and Settlement Service, and the Inspectorate to re-examine the condition of the reported damaged school buildings. In addition to checking the condition of buildings at SDN Mekarwangi 1 and 2, the Deputy Regent inspected the school building at SDN Sukareh 2 in Bayongbong District and SDN Cipicung 3 and SDN Bagendit 2 in Banyuresmi District. He said that school buildings that were no longer feasible and could endanger students had to be rebuilt immediately. "Many also have damaged structures, meaning that the soil is already damaged, the subsidence, the structure must be built from scratch, it can't be just the roof anymore," said Helmi.
