TANJUNGPINANG - Head of the Office of Women's Empowerment, Child Protection, and Community Empowerment of Tanjungpinang City, Riau Islands Rustam noted that throughout 2022 at least 76 children were victims of violence in the region. "The number of children who were victims of violence was 76 people and most of them were victims of sexual violence," said Rustam in Tanjungpinang, quoted from Antara, Tuesday, October 18. He revealed that 42 out of 76 children were victims of sexual violence, while 13 boys became perpetrators. Of the 42 children who were victims of sexual violence, two of them were boys. "Those who were victims of cases of sexual intercourse were 15 children and sexual abuse of 21 children," he said. Meanwhile, based on relationships with victims, most cases of sexual violence were perpetrated by girlfriends. The Office of Women's Empowerment, Child Protection, and Community Empowerment received 12 reports related to the case in the January - September 2022 period. Seven other sexual violence against children was carried out by other people and five cases were carried out by neighbors. "There is one sexual violence with the perpetrators of family members," he said. Rustam said the age of victims of sexual violence against children was dominated by 19 cases of children aged 6-12 years. The age group is 13-17 years and 14 children, while the age is 0-5 years and three people. Meanwhile, perpetrators of sexual violence against children are at most 18-25 years old. The Department of Women's Empowerment, Child Protection, and Community Empowerment recorded seven cases of violence committed by perpetrators aged 18 to 25 years in the period January - September 2022, while ages 13 - 17 years and 26 - 40 years each six cases, and one case with perpetrators aged 6 to 12 years. "For cases of violence with adult perpetrators, we will proceed to the police," he said. He said cases of violence against children could be prevented by the government, families, schools and residents. Attention, protection and understanding given to children can prevent violence. "Synergy that is built between parties can prevent violence against children," he said.
