JAKARTA - Russia will launch mass production of unmanned aerial vehicles or drones, after proving very effective in special military operations in Ukraine, said Russian Security Council deputy chairman Dmitry Medvedev on its Telegram channel on Friday.

"UAV has proven its effectiveness in modern conflicts. Its use in the special military operations zone is an urgent need," Medvedev said as reported by TASS on October 15.

"Russia has yet to launch large-scale UAV production of various types," Medvedev continued.

The former Russian president further explained that there had been a special examination from the LLC Special Technology Center in St. Petersburg investigating the supply of Orlan drones under the orders of national defense.

Federal executive authorities and law enforcement agencies took part. Medvedev describes the upload with videos from workshops and business meetings.

In organizing the 'Army Forum 2022' in August, the Russian Ministry of Defense signed a number of contracts to acquire Orlan, Inokhodets and Eloron drones.

A contract was signed with the LLC Special Technology Center for the manufacture and supply of systems equipped with Orlan-10 and Orlan-30 unmanned aerial vehicles.

There is also a contract signed with JSC Kronshtadt, for the manufacture and supply of "complexes with unmanned Inokhodets aerial vehicles".

Next, there is a contract signed with JSC Eniks for the manufacture and supply of UAV Eleron-3.

It is known, drones became one of Russia's mainstays in the war in Ukraine. Most recently, drones along with cruise missiles rained down on Kyiv and other Ukrainian cities over the past week, in retaliation for explosions that occurred on the Crimea bridge.
