Encourage Internal Evaluation, PDIP Asks The Police To Exemplify The Figure Of General Hoegeng

JAKARTA - Secretary General of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) Hasto Kristiyanto, assessed that this is the right moment for the Indonesian Police (Polri) to carry out auto-criticism and comprehensive improvement within their institutions. Moreover, in the history of the nation's struggle, the National Police has a proud historical track record. Hasto said this was addressing a series of problems that were hitting the Bhayangkara Corps. Starting from the case of Ferdy Sambo, the tear gas for the tragedy, to the arrest of Inspector General Teddy Minahasa who was involved in the drug buying and selling network.

According to Hasto, the National Police can imitate the figure of General Hoegeng Imam Santoso or General Hoegeng, as a police figure in Indonesia who is known for his honesty.

"The National Police must emulate General Hoegeng, whose photos we set up at the Party School. So that the Police are firm, maintain authority, obey the law, and build a just legal system that prioritizes partiality to the people. This must be the spirit of improving the Police," said Hasto in his statement, Saturday, October 15.

Hasto said that the various problems that have occurred within the National Police in recent times have reduced public trust. Therefore, the Police must immediately evaluate and move to protect the community.

"When various internal problems have been shaken, as has happened recently, the National Police must immediately evaluate, reform and reshuffle in order to rebuild self-confidence in front of the people with achievements," said Hasto.

Therefore, Hasto emphasized, PDIP encourages the Police to immediately make fundamental improvements within the Police, and must increase discipline.

"That is the hope of the PDI-P. After all, the National Police, like the TNI, have a proud historical track record," said the Defense Science Doctor.

It is known that Indonesian President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) encouraged the National Police to work hard to restore public trust in the National Police institution. This was conveyed by President Jokowi when giving directions to the ranks of the National Police, ranging from the main officials of the National Police Headquarters, regional police chiefs (kapolda), to the head of the resort police (kapolres) throughout the country at the State Palace, Jakarta, Friday, October 14.
